Los doce discípulos
(Mc 3.13-19Lc 6.12-16)1 Jesús reunió a sus doce discípulos. A cada uno le dio poder para expulsar malos espíritus y para sanar toda clase de enfermedades.
2 A los doce discípulos que Jesús eligió, los llamó apóstoles. Estos son sus nombres: Simón, mejor conocido como Pedro, y su hermano Andrés; Santiago y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo; 3 Felipe, Bartolomé, Tomás, Mateo el cobrador de impuestos, Santiago hijo de Alfeo, Tadeo, 4 Simón el patriota y Judas Iscariote, que fue el que después traicionó a Jesús.
Jesús envía a los doce
(Mc 6.7-13Lc 9.1-6)5 Jesús envió a estos doce discípulos con las siguientes instrucciones:
«No vayan por lugares donde vive gente que no es judía. Tampoco vayan a los pueblos de la región de Samaria. 6 Mejor vayan a los israelitas, pues son un pueblo que anda como rebaño perdido.
7 »Cuando vayan, anuncien este mensaje: “Ya está por llegar el reino de Dios”.
8 »Sanen también a los enfermos. Devuélvanles la vida a los muertos. Sanen a los leprosos, y libren de los demonios a la gente. ¡No cobren nada por hacerlo, pues el poder que Dios les ha dado a ustedes tampoco les costó nada!
9 »Y no lleven dinero 10 ni provisiones para el camino. Tampoco lleven bastón ni otro par de zapatos, ni otra muda de ropa. Porque todo el que trabaja tiene derecho a ser alimentado.
11 »Cuando lleguen a un pueblo o a una ciudad, busquen a alguien que merezca su confianza, y quédense a vivir en su casa hasta que se vayan del lugar. 12 Cuando entren en esa casa, saluden ofreciendo la paz a todos los que vivan en ella. 13 Si merecen la paz, la tendrán. Si no la merecen, no la tendrán.
14 »Si en alguna casa o pueblo se niegan a recibirlos o escucharlos, salgan de ese lugar y sacúdanse el polvo de los pies en señal de rechazo. 15 Les aseguro que, en el día del juicio final, ese pueblo será más castigado que las ciudades de Sodoma y Gomorra.
Advertencia sobre el peligro
16 »El trabajo que yo los envío a hacer es peligroso. Es como enviar ovejas a un lugar lleno de lobos. Por eso, sean listos y estén atentos como las serpientes, pero sean también humildes, como las palomas.
17 »Tengan cuidado, porque los entregarán a las autoridades y los golpearán en las sinagogas. 18 Por ser ustedes mis discípulos, los llevarán ante reyes y gobernadores, y ustedes hablarán de mi parte ante ellos y ante su gente.
19 »Cuando los entreguen, no se preocupen por lo que van a decir, ni cómo van a decirlo, porque en ese momento Dios les indicará lo que deben decir. 20 Ustedes no son los que van a hablar, sino que el Espíritu de Dios hablará por ustedes.
21 »Entre hermanos se traicionarán unos a otros. Cada uno entregará al otro para que lo maten. Los padres traicionarán a sus hijos, y los hijos atacarán a sus padres y los matarán. 22 ¡Todo el mundo los odiará a ustedes por ser mis discípulos! Pero si ustedes confían en mí hasta el final, yo los salvaré.
23 »Cuando la gente de un pueblo los persiga para maltratarlos, huyan a otro pueblo. Les aseguro que yo, el Hijo del hombre, regresaré con todo el poder de Dios, antes de que ustedes terminen de recorrer todos los pueblos de Israel.
24 »El discípulo no es más importante que su maestro, ni el esclavo es más importante que su amo. 25 Lo más que puede hacer el discípulo es ser igual a su maestro, y el esclavo, igual a su amo. Si la gente dice que yo soy el diablo, entonces, ¿qué no dirán de ustedes, que son mis discípulos?
Consejos
(Lc 12.2-7)26 »No le tengan miedo a nadie. Porque todo lo que esté escondido se descubrirá, y todo lo que se mantenga en secreto llegará a conocerse. 27 Si les digo algo en la oscuridad, díganlo ustedes a plena luz del día. Si les cuento un secreto, cuéntenselo a todo el mundo. 28 No tengan miedo de la gente que puede destruir el cuerpo, pero no la vida que está en ustedes. Más bien, teman a Dios, que tiene el poder de destruirlos totalmente en el infierno.
29 »Dos pajaritos no valen más que una moneda. Sin embargo, ningún pajarito muere sin que Dios, el Padre de ustedes, lo permita. 30 ¡Dios sabe hasta cuántos cabellos tienen ustedes en la cabeza! 31 Por eso, no tengan miedo. Ustedes valen mucho más que todos los pajaritos.
Hablar de Jesús
(Lc 12.8-9)32 »Si ustedes les dicen a otros que son mis seguidores, yo también le diré a mi Padre, que en verdad lo son. 33 Pero si ustedes le dicen a la gente que no son mis seguidores, yo también le diré a mi Padre que no lo son.
Jesús advierte a sus discípulos
(Lc 12.51-53Lc 14.26-27)34 »No crean ustedes que he venido para establecer la paz en este mundo. No he venido a traer paz, sino pleitos y dificultades. 35 He venido para poner al hijo en contra de su padre, a la hija en contra de su madre, y a la nuera en contra de su suegra. 36 El peor enemigo de ustedes lo tendrán en su propia familia.
37 »Si ustedes prefieren a su padre o a su madre más que a mí, o si prefieren a sus hijos o a sus hijas más que a mí, no merecen ser míos. 38 Y si no cargan su cruz y me siguen, no merecen ser míos. 39 Si solo se preocupan por su propia vida, la van a perder. Pero si están dispuestos a dar su vida por causa mía, les aseguro que la van a ganar.
Los premios
(Mc 9.41)40 »Cuando una persona los recibe a ustedes, también me recibe a mí. Y cuando una persona me recibe a mí, también recibe a Dios, que es quien me envió.
41 »Dios les dará un premio a los que reciban en su casa a un profeta, solo por saber que el profeta anuncia el mensaje de Dios. El premio será igual al que Dios les da a sus profetas.
»De la misma manera, Dios dará un premio a los que reciban a alguien que obedece a Dios. El premio será el mismo que Dios les da a quienes lo obedecen y hacen lo bueno.
42 »Les aseguro que Dios no se olvidará de premiar al que dé un vaso de agua fresca a uno de mis seguidores, aunque se trate del menos importante.»
1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. 2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, 10 Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. 11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
16 ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. 24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. 32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
40 ¶ He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
